New violin concerto written for Harriet Mackenzie by Julian Joseph!

Jazz pianist, composer and broadcaster Julian Joseph is writing a  violin concerto for Harriet Mackenzie to be premiered at Salisbury International Festival 2022 with Ensemble 12.

The world première of jazz legend Julian Joseph’s violin concerto ‘Karyryouacou’– commissioned by Salisbury International Arts Festival – marries perfectly with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons masterpiece in this fresh, exciting programme.

Vivaldi’s nature and birdsong inspiration complements Joseph’s vision for his new piece which also celebrates the Festival’s island theme – the richness of the history of an island in the Grenadines.

Harriet Mackenzie (Associate Artist) and 12 Ensemble join forces for the first time.

“Islands are precious places of family, history and geography but even more importantly of mind, heart, spirit, soul and human connection” Julian Joseph.

Kosmos concerto written by Errollyn Wallen a critical success.

The esteemed composer Errollyn Wallen’s ‘Kosmos Triple Concerto’, written for Harriet’s group Kosmos has been a success with both audiences and critics alike at the premiere at the Gala Concert of the Jersey Liberation Festival (Jersey Chamber Orchestra, Eammon Dougan conducting) and the UK premiere at the headlining concert of the Chichester Festival in Chichester Cathedral (Worthing Symphony Orchestra, John Gibbons conducting). Eminent critic Michael White writes in Classical Music Magazine: “unlike any other Triple concerto you might know, this one featured Kosmos, the dynamic trio whose combination of violin, viola and accordion is an invitation to exotic sound-worlds outside the parameters of Western Classicism. Wallen’s piece strayed into Venezuelan dances, Orthodox liturgical chants and other source material that made it a celebration of diversity – entirely appropriate to something that was premiered on the day of Prince Harry’s wedding to Megan Markle, and almost equally joyous.”
